So I decided to hack this pattern a bit, but omitting the darts and centre back zip, and instead insert elastic into the waistband. This fabric is a stretch denim we used for the wide-leg Ash Curve pattern sample and I am really happy with the decision to use it. Birdie is growing a lot and I think the addition of some stretch in the denim will help this make last her longer. A case in Kansas cited the novel’s use of talking animals as a reason to ban it from school libraries. The main conflict of the story is finding a way to keep Wilbur from being slaughtered.
Plus, she has the special privilege of giving him a name. Basically, without Fern, Wilbur would have been on the butcher's block. She is also known to be the owner of eleven piglets from a mother with 10 teats. Her father almost killed the eleventh pig but Fern stopped him and offered to take care of the pig.
